Event Overview

This short talk will outline the progress over the past year to integrate the Noteable coding platform developed by EDINA, the centre for digital expertise and services within the Information Services Group, into Scottish schools.

The short talk will speak to the integration of Noteable as a coding platform into the GLOW intranet Scottish schools use for accessing resources and applications, the deficits being addressed in computer science student numbers through this project in collaboration with Education Scotland, and point to future development that will benefit classrooms including Noteable as a web development platform and being used to teach with data through an interactive platform.

About the presenter - James Stix and Gareth Rae

James manages the Noteable service in EDINA, the centre for digital expertise of the University. An enthusiast of technology to advance access to education and human innovation, James worked in international development and risk management consulting before joining EDINA to focus on Noteable, an online software platform for Universities and schools to access coding environments with features tailored for education.

Gareth Rae is Principal Teacher of Computing Science at Girvan Academy in South Ayrshire. He has been teaching for over 20 years at all levels of the Computing Science curriculum including the Broad General Education, National 4 and 5, Higher, Advanced Higher and more recently Cyber Security and Computer Games Development. Python is his programming language of choice for teaching software development.
