Event Overview

Over the last year, almost all academic and cultural events have been forced online. Planning and delivering virtual events can seem quite daunting:  choosing the right platform, feeling confident with the set-up, learning how to prepare, and how best to support speakers all takes time.

In this informal session, Lisa Otty (Centre for Data, Culture & Society) and Ben Fletcher-Watson (IASH) will share what they have learnt over the past year as they successfully moved their public events programmes online.

Topics will include: the affordances and limitations of the different platforms available within the University of Edinburgh; pointers on setting up webinars, meetings and workshops; good practice for guiding and supporting presenters;  tips on running live events smoothly; working with partners; dealing with accessibility issues; making recordings available.

This knowledge-sharing session is pitched at those who will/may have to organise events themselves, and will be guided by the specific interests and questions of participants.

This online session will be run via Microsoft Teams. You will receive a link to the event prior to the event date.
